COSCO International is awarded Caring Company Logo for the second consecutive year


In 2009, COSCO International continued undertaking its social responsibilities to the employees, the environment and the community under the concerted efforts of the senior management and its staff after being granted the Caring Company Logo 2008/2009. The Company gained social recognition and was again awarded the Caring Company Logo 2008/2009 by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, in recognition of its contributions of being a good corporate citizen last year.

Mr. Wang Xiaodong, Managing Director of COSCO International said after knowing that the Company was awarded the logo, ¡¥it is the second consecutive year for COSCO International being granted this logo. The logo not only recognises our efforts and contributions in caring for the employee, the environment and the community, but also indicates that the Company as a whole has established a social responsible corporate culture. In the future, COSCO International will continue to try its best as ever to perform our social responsibilities to the stakeholders and fulfill our promises to return to the society while pursuing higher profitability and shareholders¡¦ values.¡¨

COSCO International always regards its employees as a valuable asset of the company and actively fulfills the responsibility of a good employer. Although under the unfavourable operating circumstances last year, the Company did not implement any salary cut or layoff plans as part of cost control measures. On the contrary, the Company perfected its salary and benefits system according to its development needs as a whole and provided its employees a friendly working environment. The Company also strengthened its team building through various kinds of activities and highlighted ¡§employee-oriented¡¨ management philosophy upon building a cohesive corporate culture.

The Company places strong emphasis on environmental protection. In addition to carrying out energy saving and emission reduction measures during operations so as to minimizing the hazards to the environment, the Company launched an environmental-friendly campaign of ¡§saving water, power and paper¡¨ to promote green office. The Company also cooperated with the Christian Action and the Community Chest to encourage its staff to donate reusable goods and support green livelihood through cash donations. These activities helped raising the employees¡¦ green awareness of recycling, energy saving and carbon reduction.

The Company has urged its staff to participate in social charity activities in recent years. Last year, the Company supported education in the mountainous areas of the Chinese mainland by donating and sponsoring the charity event of ¡§Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours Charity Marathon 2009¡¨. Meanwhile, the Company encouraged its staff to participate in fund raising programmes for the students in the rural areas in the Chinese mainland and provided assistance for the needy.

Going forward, the Company will continue to actively perform its corporate social responsibilities and will establish partnership with social services organisations to encourage the employees to participate in more environmental protection and charitable activities, so as to contribute to the building up of team spirit and constructing a healthy and harmonious society.

About the Caring Company Scheme

The Caring Company Scheme is organised by The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and sponsored by the Hong Kong SAR Government, which received wide recognition by the commercial community and society. The mission of Caring Company Scheme is to openly recognise those public and private organizations which demonstrate good corporate citizenship so as to build a cohesive society by promoting strategic partnership among businesses and social service partners and inspiring corporate social responsibility through caring for the community, employees and the environment. Any organisation awarded the Caring Company logo should perform its responsibilities to the employee, the environment and the community over the past year. Any company gave contributions for five consecutive years will be awarded 5 Consecutive Years Caring Company Logo to showcase its good corporate citizenship.
