COSCO SHIPPING International (Hong Kong)'s Volunteer Team Pays Visit to the Elderly Living Alone to Celebrate Chinese New Year
As the year of the Rooster is approaching, COSCO SHIPPING International (Hong
Kong)’s volunteer team participated in a visiting activity namely “Giving Care
and Warmth by Paying Visit” on 14th January 2017 organised by a non-profit
social organisation namely Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (“NAAC”). The
volunteers carried gift bags and visited a total of 15 elderly living alone and
together in a public housing estate in Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon, to celebrate the
forthcoming festive Chinese New Year. This promoted COSCO SHIPPING International
(Hong Kong)’s volunteerism of passion to serve the community.
It was a chilling morning but the volunteer team of COSCO SHIPPING
International (Hong Kong) remained enthusiastic. The team, comprising 23 members
and wearing volunteer uniforms printed with the new corporate logo, carried
packets of hot soup and rice, together with other necessities, paid a visit to
the elderly living alone and together and showed their care to the elderly. The
elderly living alone are mostly aged between 80 and 90. They appreciated the
volunteers to pay visits to them as they are aged and often alone at home.
During the visit, the elderly not only reflected their needs to the volunteers,
but also shared their life stories.
The visit activity is a large-scale activity organised by Sham Shui Po
District Elderly Community Centre of Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council
(“NAAC”). The activity was sponsored by various companies and charitable
organisations in Hong Kong, in which COSCO SHIPPING International (Hong Kong) is
one of the sponsors. Over the past six years, COSCO SHIPPING International (Hong
Kong) collaborated with NAAC and sent its volunteer team during the festive
seasons and the winter to visit the elderly. Until now, a total of 1,076
volunteer hours were serviced and a number of 268 elderly who live alone and who
live together benefited. COSCO SHIPPING International (Hong Kong) was awarded a
certificate of commendation by NAAC in recognition of its active participation
in volunteer services.
